National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program operators are required to have a Local Wellness Policy, which is an important tool for promoting student wellness across the school environment. Attendees will learn about the required wellness policy elements, including policy language, public involvement, triennial assessments, ISBE monitoring, and more.
Working together as a team is key to maintaining a safe environment for students with dietary restrictions in the cafeteria and beyond. Join ISBE staff from the Nutrition Department and Wellness and Student Care Department for a presentation on accommodating children with special dietary needs. Presenters will cover ways to collect and share dietary restrictions for students with disabilities. Attendees will understand the importance of knowing the individual student’s needs and how to transitions from the cafeteria to classroom.
